The titular Girl A, played by a charming Solene Weinachter, attempts to film a romantic comedy onstage, to the consternation of dancers who insist they “aren’t actors”. She fails spectacularly, and each one of her scenes ends up degenerating, so to speak, into stunning displays of modern dance.

Simply stated, the work is unrestrainedly beautiful. Girl A’s attempts at filmmaking are caught on camera and projected at the back of the stage, creating a striking double-vision as the company pirouette in the front. Their efforts are backed by an emotive soundtrack of post-rock acts like Animal Collective and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, with a consummately timely intrusion by J.S. Bach.
