It wouldn't be the Fringe without a Reginald D Hunter show with the word "nigga" in the title. But apart from the show's title, there's little in the show to jangle any PC nerves: Hunter is a straight-up lefty-liberal, intent on using his own unique logic to describe the injustices of the world. As the main topic of this year's set is bullying, he is able to offer his own humorous slant on something so universal.
Recently introduced to a wider audience thanks to guest appearances on Have I Got News For You, it's his politics that define the show and brings his entertaining musings to the fore. He is clearly in his element when wondering aloud with apparent innocence about the political makeup of a Conservative. Most importantly, these jabs are not created out of ignorance – Hunter clearly knows his own mind, and he demonstrates a cutting insight into the minds of those who believe otherwise.
His talent lies in extracting the truth from an absurd situation and injecting a new spin to it, as in his justification of Tiger Woods' sexual history. An affable charm and easygoing command of the stage stifles any offence which could be caused from material that could be a lot harsher in another comedian's hands. Hunter has an intelligence, directness and appeal that makes him instantly cool.
