Not so much raw as under-cooked

It’s not clear what audiences are meant to take from Raw, a Scottish-Australian cabaret-theatre piece about a 30-something former stage performer, who, following a bad break-up, goes on holiday and flirts with prostitution for money and kicks. Things inevitably take a turn for the sinister, but the dark themes at work in the story are left largely unexplored in favour of a naive, “ah, you live and learn” kind of tone and feather-light songs sung in a wavering pitch. More thought needs to go into this show all round – it’s not so much raw as under-cooked.
