Still best known as Stifler's Mom from the American Pie films, you might well expect a show with Jennifer Coolidge to be full of idle Hollywood reminiscences and some in-character flirting. Thankfully, she's far too smart for that.
What Coolidge delivers instead is a varied hour of stories and standup that shows off her skills as a consummate entertainer. She cuts through a lot of the froth surrounding move-making as well as playfully undermining her own image, all delivered in a breathy voice with smouldering looks aplenty. The result is an amusing and pleasant show, if not a particularly memorable one.
When discussing Hollywood, Coolidge is particularly venomous, especially on the subject of the pressure to be thin. Only half-jokingly, she discusses the benefits of cocaine and laxatives in diet plans (the latter having the side-effect of an unfortunately sedentary lifestyle). Coolidge is also a surprisingly talented impressionist, with fairly original takes on Paris Hilton and Renee Zellweger. There's a touch of absurd sketch humour too, including a Danish pastry-munching version of a scene from Sophie's Choice.
With her constant talk of wanting to leave Hollywood, and love for Scottish men, the show can sometimes feel like an application for British citizenship. Indeed, the constant criticism of LA life eventually starts to feel a little false, given Coolidge's long-time insider status.
Depending on your level of cynicism, her charming anger is either a clever rebranding exercise or a principled critique. Either way, it's a solid evening's entertainment.
