Andrew Maxwell: Five Nights Only!

Irishman and veteran Fringe-botherer Andrew Maxwell has no new show this year, and freely admits that his five-night residency at the “medieval rape room” that is the Assembly’s Rainy Hall is just an excuse to spend a week “at the festival I love, in the city I adore.” He gives a typically assured and relaxed performance, but he’s only managed to half-fill the room and consequently struggles to raise the energy levels much beyond the warmly receptive. But he’s among friends and gives us enough strong new material—including some great stuff about the party-pooping ‘Scottish Jesus’—to keep us onside with his laddish, intelligent and bawdy shtick.
